American Airlines Flight 331 UPDATE

The American Airlines plane that crashed at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, Jamaica, apparently touched down in the middle of the runway.  This, according to experts, was too late for a Boeing 737-800 plane.  The runway at the airport measures a bit over 8,000 feet; the plane touched down at 4,000 and “bounced once” before the brakes engaged.

Investigations are still underway into the cause of the crash, but I just heard on the radio that the plane was mechanically sound at the time of crash.  There was a tailwind, and the flight crew were advised of it, but the still opted to land.
