The Music Studio is an independent music school located on the campus of Immaculate Conception High School, one of the premier all-girls schools in Jamaica.

The school fosters a holistic approach to teaching music where kids not only learn to play the piano, but learn to improvise, play by ear, read music, and learn theory, including harmony.  Students get performing experience by participating in concerts, performing in music festivals, and by sitting the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) exams in piano, practical musicianship, and theory.

Students have done exceptionally well. A nine-year-old student from the studio won the cup for Best Junior Performer at the 2009 Music Teachers’ Classical Music Festival.  She also earned the highest mark in Jamaica for piano in the 2010 ABRSM exams, where 100% of the students who took the piano exams from my school passed with distinctions.

Students receive both private and group lessons each week.  In the group lessons students learn the fundamentals of practical musicianship in a fun and supportive environment, and learn to perform for an audience and critique each other’s performances in a safe, non-threatening environment.  Piano lessons are always given on one-on-one basis.

Instruction is available for beginners to FRSM in piano, grades 1 to 8 in theory, and grades 1 to 8 in practical musicianship.
