Training in this heat

This heat is going to be the death of me, I swear.  I just read in today’s The Jamaica Observer that, thanks to El Nino, this summer is the hottest since 1994 and the driest in 30 years.

It is so hot that I have to train my dogs late at night.  At 12:30am, I have just worked on Athena’s distance work and stand.

What an improvement!  She now understands the hand signal for sit at a distance.  We were able to do a bit of drop on recall where she sits some distance from me, I call her, she comes but before she reaches me, I cue her to down.  We did that for the first time tonight using her mat, and she did it perfectly.

She is developing a nice kick back stand where she stands from a sit without actually moving forward.  I haven’t put the cue on that yet, but I have succeeded in fading the lure.

Upwards and onwards, as they say.
